Joint Honors Economics

Allows students to study two subjects to degree level with advanced specialisation in one or both subjects depending on their course choices.

What is Joint Honors Economics?

The attraction of the Joint Honors programme is that it introduces students to two disciplines during their undergraduate studies with students having the choice of seven subjects which complement the study of Economics. Economics and Mathematics, for example, will appeal to students with a high mathematical ability who are interested in a career in finance or actuarial studies. Economics and Geography is an excellent choice for those interested in urban and regional planning.

Course Structure

In the Joint Honors programme, Economics can be studied with any of the following subjects:

  • Geography
  • History
  • Mathematics
  • Philosophy
  • Sociology
  • Modern Languages (German, Spanish)

Is it for me?

Economics will appeal to students with a wide range of interests. If you are interested in current economic affairs or in understanding how public policies could lower unemployment or assist the developing world, then you will find studying economics both stimulating and rewarding. Economics is also a strong platform for careers in business and finance. Students who enjoy abstract thinking, and are evaluating courses such as engineering or physics, should also consider economics as a degree option.

Economics students develop exceptional logical reasoning and analytical skills which are highly sought after by employers in a range of fields including business, finance, journalism, law, politics, the public service and academia.

What are the entry requirements?

Each combination of two subjects has a different CAO course code and entry requirements. Please visit the Study at Trinity website for additional details regarding admissions requirements.
