The John O'Hagan Grattan Scholars

The School of Social Sciences and Philosophy developed a prestigious scholarship programme - The John O'Hagan Grattan Scholars - with the aim of advancing high-quality social science research and teaching in Trinity. The programme supports exceptional PhD students who have the potential to become future academic leaders and influential voices for social and economic development.

Emeritus Professor of Economics, John O’Hagan, is a founding father of The John O' Hagan Grattan Scholars programme. The John O’Hagan Grattan Scholarships have been established through the generous support of a group of Economics alumni, as a tribute to Professor O’Hagan’s outstanding contribution to the teaching of Economics and his dedication to students in the department over many years.

Scholars are chosen not only for their academic achievements, but also for their commitment to teaching and ambition to understand and improve society through their research and education.  John O'Hagan Grattan Scholars also play a vital role in delivering high-quality and engaging teaching enriching the learning experience of our undergraduate students.

Since the programme was established in 2012, 13 John O'Hagan Grattan Scholarships have been awarded to PhD students in the Department of Economics thanks to generous support of Trinity's alumni and friends.
