Research: Numerical and Experimental Study of Inerters for Offshore Wind Turbines

My PhD research focuses on developing lightweight and efficient vibration control systems for offshore wind turbines using inerter-based devices. The research investigates the dynamic behaviour of inerter-based vibration absorbers, with particular emphasis on their configurations, effectiveness, and practical implementation. Through numerical modelling and optimisation, I explore innovative configurations that enhance vibration suppression while minimising additional structural mass. My work also involves developing more representative wind turbine models and experimental testing of inerter devices to evaluate their performance under realistic operating conditions. The overall aim is to improve the structural reliability, efficiency, and long-term performance of offshore wind turbines.
