Environmental Engineering Testimonials

I chose Trinity College Dublin as it has an excellent track record of producing successful professionals. The experience and profile of the lecturers was key to my choice. I found the lectures to be comprehensive - while being exam focused, they also equipped me with the tools I needed in my professional career. Since graduating, I have worked as a Structural Design Engineer for PM Group on many challenging projects for blue chip multinationals across the globe. Having spent a number of years working in industry, I for one can vouch that this course provided me with both a strong technical background, and the skills required to succeed in large multidisciplinary teams.

Structural Design Engineer at PM Group

After graduating from an undergraduate degree in Civil Engineering from Trinity and having spent a number of years in the engineering consultancy industry I chose to undertake the MSc in Trinity on a part time basis to widen my breath in knowledge in all aspects of engineering. I found the lecturers were knowledgeable and that the course content was relevant, interesting and comprehensive whilst maintaining a nice balance between academic and industry focus. Having spent over a decade in the engineering consultancy industry since graduating from the MSc, I would recommend the course to others as it provides both the technical and personal skills required to succeed in a large multidisciplinary company.

Associate Director in Transportation at AECOM

I did my bachelor's in Civil and Environmental Engineering in UCC and after graduation I realized that I needed to improve my knowledge particularly in Environmental Engineering as it was my passion. Therefore, I applied to the MSc program at Trinity College Dublin which gave me exposure to a broad spectrum of Environmental Engineering disciplines, such as water management, water resources management, air and noise pollution, etc., with the benefit of being taught by the best experts in each field. The thesis project allowed me to become more independent and self-disciplined. The rigorous attitude on academic research and the tight correlation between courses and practice were highly recommended and respected. I am looking forward to put all the knowledge I learned from this programme into practice.

I did the MSc in Structural & Geotechnical Engineering as a part time student over two years. The course is well structured and provides a thorough study of advanced engineering theory with many applications to industry practice. There are a wide range of modules to choose from. The staff to student ratios are good and lectures are conducted in an open participative manner. The Department offered a pleasant and professional environment and the lecturers were very approachable and supportive.

Joining Trinity's MSc in Engineering was definitely the best decision I have made in my career, it equipped me with knowledge and skills which are highly in demand in the Environmental Engineering industry and I am using what I have learned from the MSc in my daily life as an Engineer. Lecturers are very helpful and friendly and also very knowledgeable in their field of study. Trinity's campus, Career advisory Service and library services are world class.

Environmental Engineer with O'Connor Sutton Cronin Consulting Engineers

Matthew attended Trinity College Dublin from Notre Dame in the US on a Naughton Scholarship. The Masters programme at Trinity College definitely helped me prepare for my current job and for working in the structural engineering field. One of the great things about the programme is that it was an accelerated program which only lasted a year but also allowed me to perform research and produce a thesis (most research programmes in the USA typically take 2 years). Overall it was a great experience and I highly recommend it to anybody looking to obtain a masters in structural engineering. I have been at the job almost two years and really like it. I am currently using my education to design buildings and small structures, as well as to inspect bridges in the Maryland region.

Structural Designer at Gannett Fleming, Inc. in Baltimore MD, USA

I pursued my Masters degree in Structural and Geotechnical Engineering. The extraordinary courses helped me to significantly develop and improve my academic background. As an international student, I stepped up to this program hoping to gain the experience that can remove barriers to future success, and Trinity College didn't let me down. This program is precisely intended to help students understand and investigate the ties between the academic environment and industrial demand. Of course, every successful researcher needs the tools in his/her toolbox and I strongly believe that I may have taken that extra mile due to the valuable research experience I gained at Trinity College Dublin and the unlimited help provided by its amazing staff. Since then, I have recommended the MSc program to a lot of my international friends and they have all had the same satisfying experience.

Researcher & Teaching Assistant at the University of Alberta, Canada

I graduated a master in Civil Environmental Engineering at TCD in 2014 but months before my graduation, there were people offering me a job and trusting the quality of education that I received in TCD. Trinity opened doors for me, I feel proud every time I need to mention my education. For that, I need to thank all professors that enriched my knowledge and tailored my career. My job got me working in all departments of the company including Transport & Collections, Landfill Gas Recovery, Environmental, H&S, Waste Recycling and Recovery, Accounting and Sales Department. I have to admit the best time I spent was in Landfill Gas Recovery because I could apply all my knowledge about landfills accumulated during my time in TCD.

Environmental Engineer with Greenstar Recycling

Taking the MSc in Engineering at Trinity has greatly impacted my careers in a number of way. I chose to specialise in Environmental Engineering as I felt this was an area of most benefit to me moving forward. In addition, I was fortunate to be able to get a taste of the other specialist modules and chose one or two from the other streams. The staff were friendly and helpful, and I found myself in a class of like-minded peers with whom supported one another throughout the course. Most of all, the MSc dissertation sparked my passion for research, and since completing the course I completed my PhD in Trinity and five years later I was fortunate enough to be appointed as Assistant Professor. My research expertise has evolved from what I learned during my MSc and PhD in topics like air pollution controls, energy efficient systems and life cycle assessment.
