Biography

Gaye qualified as a physical education teacher with a distinction in dance. As a founding member of the Dance Council of Ireland (now Dance Ireland) she was involved in the design and delivery of a range of courses, events and resources organised for teachers interested in dance. She has extensive experience in the area of dance in Ireland, and has also taught and lectured in Canada and Japan. She recently retired from the Arts Council/An Chomhairle Ealaíon where she served as Dance Officer for eight years, and Head of Young People, Children and Education programmes for ten years. She holds a master’s degree in dance from the University of Limerick. Gaye’s doctoral research (School of Education, Trinity College Dublin) was in the area of dance education in Ireland with a particular focus on teacher education and the primary school curriculum. She continues to be actively involved in the field of arts and education in Ireland, particularly dance education.
