Project title
AgEvaluate: nature-based solutions for cleaner rivers in Irish farm landscapes
Summary
I study practical, nature-based measures that help keep rivers clean in agricultural areas. The focus is on options farmers can install and look after, and on tracking how well they reduce losses to streams under real Irish conditions.
At field sites in the west and northwest I monitor measures such as small wetlands, buffer strips along streams, simple sediment traps, and peatland edge restoration. I use routine and event sampling and clear record-keeping, so results are easy to compare across sites.
The aim is to turn field evidence into plain, usable guidance for farms and local authorities. By the end we want to show what works best, where it works, and how to size and maintain these solutions for lasting benefits to rivers, wildlife, and communities.
