2nd ESAI Curriculum Studies Special Interest Group Research Conference

“Curriculum Making in Ireland: a multiplicity of actors and sites of activity engaging in the social practice of interpreting, translating, mediating, and enacting curriculum”.

June 14th 2024 9.00 – 14.00 in DCU All Hallows Campus

Keynote is by Dr Sinem Hizli Alkan, Senior Lecturer at Anglia Ruskin University, England.

Sinem teaches in the MA Education and BA Primary Education Studies. She holds a BA in Primary Mathematics Education and a master's in Curriculum and Instruction from Turkey, and a PhD  from the University of Stirling (Scotland). Before joining ARU, she worked as a primary mathematics teacher in Finland, and as an academic at Ondokuz Mayis University (Turkey) and University of Stirling.  Her research interests include teachers' curriculum-making practices, social, cultural and political aspects of teaching mathematics, and teachers' networks and reflexivity drawing mainly from critical realism. She currently leads research, 'Curriculum Making and Social Justice', at ARU.

The keynote is followed by:

  • Parallel poster and paper sessions from researchers, early career researchers, PhD, EdD and master’s students who are working in the area of curriculum.
  • Panel session with experts in the field of curriculum research in Ireland.

This event provides you with an opportunity to engage with different actors at the different sites of curriculum activity in Ireland.  In your role as researcher, what story might you share about how you are researching and analysing curriculum making at your site of activity.  The conference will offer you the space to gain a deeper understanding of how the different actors “interpret, translate, mediate and enact curriculum” (Priestley, Alvunger, Philippou & Soini, 2021) and how “the boundaries between these sites are blurred” (Dempsey, 2023, p.115).

The cost of attending the conference including lunch and breaks is €30. Book your place please see information HERE.

There is a prize of a bursary of 200€ each for the best paper/poster to cover attendance at the ESAI conference in 2025.

To apply to present your research at the conference as a paper or poster presentation, see application form and instructions below.
