Social Work
Social work programmes have been offered at Trinity College since 1934. Today, the School of Social Work and Social Policy offers two qualifying programmes for those interested in professional training in social work.
The four year Bachelor in Social Studies serves school leavers (admitted through the Central Applications Office process) and mature students (over 23 years and with relevant experience) who are successful at competitive selection interviews. The two year Masters in Social Work serves graduates with a social science background and relevant work experience. Teaching staff have a wide range of interests, with particular strengths in child welfare and mental health.
Current social work research projects in the School include work on long term foster care, children and domestic violence, drug using mothers, hospital based bereavement services, and unaccompanied minors.
The School offers professional social workers a range of options for post-graduate study through taught courses and research degrees. The School's social work staff has many active links with Schools of Social Work internationally.
