Dr Irena Yanushevskaya, Assistant Professor in Linguistics

Dr Irena Yanushevskaya has been recognised in the rank of Senior Research Fellow by the Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences. Dr Yanushevskaya is an expert phonetician and a specialist in voice analysis. She studied phonetics and linguistics at St. Petersburg State University (Russia) where she completed a PhD in Phonetics (2001) and where she taught English phonetics for a number of years. She came to Trinity College Dublin in 2002 as a visiting researcher, and continued research at the Phonetics and Speech Laboratory, TCD, where she completed a PhD in Phonetics on the topic of voice quality correlates of emotion and affect (2010). Her research concerns voice quality and its use in communication. Her research expertise is in the analysis of the voice source using inverse filtering and source parameterisation and in conducting perceptual tests. She has been teaching phonetics and phonology and instrumental phonetics to the students of linguistics and speech and language therapy both in Trinity College Dublin and NUI Galway. She is also interested in clinical phonetics and clinical applications of acoustic analysis.
