Entry Requirements

If you would like to improve your academic English before you start your degree at Trinity College Dublin, you can enrol on Trinity’s Pre-sessional Programme for international students. This intensive 10 work course runs during the summer, before you start your academic degree. It is available only for students who already hold an offer to study at Trinity College Dublin.

The Trinity Pre-Sessional Programme is a direct entry route designed especially for international undergraduate and postgraduate applicants whose conditional offer requires them to fulfil Trinity’s English language requirements. Students who successfully complete the Pre-sessional Programme are not required to take any further external English language proficiency tests. In other words, these students are permitted to proceed directly to their degree course following the summer English course.

To be eligible for the Pre-sessional Programme, applicants must already hold an offer from Trinity College Dublin as well as the following minimum English language test scores:

IELTS score of 6.0, no band under than 5.5
or
TOEFL iBT score of 72, no skill under 17
or
Duolingo English Test score of 105/160, no subscore under 95

For applicants with offers in Dentistry, Clinical Speech & Language Studies, or any course requiring an IELTS score of 7.0, the following language criteria apply:

IELTS score of 6.5, no band under than 6
or
TOEFL iBT score of 90, no skill under 20
or
Duolingo English Test score of 120/160, no subscore under 105

*Language proficiency certificates must be no more than two years old at the time of the PSP course start date. Contact us for information on other equivalent minimum test scores.
