Dr. Soumyabrata Dev

Biography

Soumyabrata Dev is an Associate Professor in the School of Computer Science and Statistics at Trinity College Dublin from 2026. He is a funded investigator with the ADAPT Centre, supported by Research Ireland. His research focuses on computer vision, image processing, and remote sensing. He develops statistical machine learning and deep learning methods for applications in environmental informatics, earth observation, and information systems. Before joining Trinity, Dr Dev was an Assistant Professor in the School of Computer Science at University College Dublin from 2019 to 2025. Dr Dev received his B.Tech. degree summa cum laude from National Institute of Technology Silchar in 2010. He worked as a network engineer at Ericsson India from 2010 to 2012. He completed his PhD at Nanyang Technological University Singapore in 2017. During his doctoral studies, he was a visiting researcher at École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne and a member of the Vision and InterAction Group at the Advanced Digital Sciences Center, the Singapore based research centre of the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign. From 2017 to 2019, he was a postdoctoral researcher at Trinity College Dublin, where he worked on industry affiliated research in collaboration with the Huawei Ireland Research Centre.
