Job Satisfaction and Organisational Climate within Healthcare; Nursing Management Issues - with specific emphasis on Leadership and Change; Research Methods - Specific Interest in Postal Surveys, Mixed Methods Studies and Focus Groups. Research Interests and Experience: My research interests fall within three main areas. Nursing Management, Clinical Nursing, Nursing Education. Nursing Management: Organisational Climate and Job Satisfaction, Leadership Styles of Ward Sisters. Clinical Nursing: Neurosurgical Nursing Nursing Education: Curriculum Issues e.g. comuter literacy and attitudes to computers among nurses undertaking a Bachelor in nursing studies degree.

    Summary
    This study is being undertaken by three staff members as follows: Dr. Jan de Vries, Dr. Elizabeth Curtis and Dr. Fintan Sheerin. Progress so far - we have submitted an application to the Ethics Committee and are awaiting final communication. Ethical approval was granted and the pilot study has commenced. Data collection for the main study will commence in January 2015.

    Leadership, Work Performance, Job Satisfaction and Research Utilisation in Nursing
    Summary
    This project, a collaboration between Ireland and another European country will commence in November 2011. A colleague for UCC will work with me on the Irish arm of the study. This study has been put on hold due to unavoidable circumstances. A decision will be made in the coming weeks regarding its continuance.

    A Study to Explore the Concept of Reflective Leadership in Nursing
    Summary
    The study is being undertaken in two universities; TCD and the University of Swansea. The Dublin arm includes collaborations from academics in TCD led by myself while the Swansea arm is led by Profesor Gary Rolfe. The design will involve three phases: phase 1 (a) review of the literature, (b) present outcomes of literatrue refiew at a conference and (c) publicaiton of a paper; Phase 2 - a Delphi study, and Phase 3 - focus groups. Progress to date - phase 1 - a review of the literature has been completed and the outcomes presented at a conference in September 2012. Since the conference presentation the literature review has been modified and a paper is currently being developed for publication. Phase 2 of the study - a Delphi survey is currently being planned and should commence either late 2014 or early 2015.

    A Questionnaire Survey to Explore Proneness to Accidents among TCD Alumni
    Summary
    This proposed pilot study aims to identify the prevalence of accidents in a population of university graduates, and to explore accident-proneness and its association with biographical factors. Ethical approval was granted and data collection is in progress. I am one of three individuals participating in the study.
