The researchers have spent several years investigating how waste materials can be used in blended cements and cement-free geopolymer binders, helping to reduce reliance on traditional Portland cement while creating valuable applications for industrial by-products. Their work has shown that these materials can offer significant carbon savings while maintaining the performance required for construction projects.
The article also examines the importance of collaboration between universities and industry in moving research beyond the laboratory. Partners including SISK, FLI Precast and Roadstone have worked closely with the Trinity team to test, manufacture and demonstrate the materials in practical construction settings.
