Undergraduate Design Project Showcase

As Ireland’s highest ranking School of Engineering (QS World University Rankings 2025), and one of the oldest in the English-speaking world, Trinity College Dublin takes the education of its engineering students very seriously. We offer three entry routes to engineering programmes, all leading to an integrated Masters degree after 5 years:

  • Engineering, general. Students can specialise in one of the following disciplines after two common years
    • Civil, Structural & Environmental
    • Mechanical and Manufacturing
    • Biomedical
    • Electronic
    • Computer
    • Electronic & Computer
  • Engineering with Management. A direct entry programme primarily aligned with Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering with significant emphasis on business, management and design & innovation
  • Environmental Science and Engineering. Students can specialise in their 5th (Masters) year in either:
    • Environmental Science
    • Environmental Engineering

We believe engineering design to be the core of ‘being’ an engineer, and in the context of our curriculum, these modules offer a chance for students to bring their creativity and ‘toolbox’ (i.e. the technical content of the curriculum) together in group endeavour. From our first year to our fifth year, students can develop their teamworking and group skills and develop an understanding of what the modern world of engineering practice entails.

Many of our projects have external stakeholders – from industry, research, NGOs and the general public, with roles ranging from mentorship, technical advice/supervision, provision of ‘challenges’ and sponsoring of awards and projects.
