Held annually at Silverstone Circuit, Formula Student UK brings together university teams from around the world to design, build and compete with formula-style race cars while demonstrating excellence in engineering, business and project management. 

Earlier this month, Formula Trinity unveiled FTX7 "Bruce", the team's fourth internal combustion race car, at the Martin Naughton E3 Learning Foundry. Designed, manufactured and tested entirely by students, the vehicle represented more than a year of work by a multidisciplinary team drawn from across Trinity. 

At Silverstone, the team's Internal Combustion division successfully passed scrutineering with an entirely new vehicle, a significant achievement that validates the quality of the design and manufacturing work completed by students throughout the year. While time constraints prevented further on-track progression, FTX7 provides a strong platform for future development. 

The team's Autonomous division delivered a landmark performance, completing both the Autocross and Trackdrive events for the first time in Formula Trinity's history. A flawless Trackdrive run saw the team finish in fourth place, while Formula Trinity also secured first place in the Real World AI event and achieved a fifth-place overall finish in the autonomous competition - the best result in the team's history. 

These successes come during a year of significant transition and growth for the student-led organisation. Following the graduation of many experienced members, a new generation of student leaders stepped forward to guide the team. The establishment of Formula Trinity's first dedicated workshop has also provided a permanent base for future design, manufacturing and testing activities. 

The School of Engineering congratulates all Formula Trinity members on their achievements. The commitment, teamwork and technical ability demonstrated throughout the season reflect the value of hands-on engineering experience and the dedication of students who contribute countless hours alongside their academic studies. 

The School would also like to recognise the many individuals and organisations who support the team. Particular thanks are due to Faculty Advisors Gerry Byrne and Dave McAulay for their continued guidance and encouragement. The team was especially pleased to see Gerry receive the Formula Student Faculty Advisor Special Contribution Award 2026, recognising his long-standing support of Formula Trinity. 

Formula Trinity's achievements would not be possible without the backing of its sponsors and industry partners. As Formula Trinity closes the chapter on a record-setting season, attention is already turning towards 2027. Hopefully with a new dedicated on campus workshop, strong technical foundations and a new generation of student engineers leading the way, the future looks bright for one of Trinity's most successful student-led initiatives.
