The Trinity Impact Evaluation Unit (TIME) hosted its 2022 Annual Keynote Lecture on Monday, December 5th in the Dargan Theatre, with Professor Dean Karlan of Northwestern University as the guest speaker. Professor Karlan delivered a lecture entitled "Empowering the Unempowered with Multi-Faceted Economic Inclusion Programs: Lessons from the Past, Ideas for the Future," drawing on his extensive career at the frontier of development economics and anti-poverty research.

Karlan is the Frederic Esser Nemmers Distinguished Professor of Economics and Finance at Northwestern, co-Director of the Global Poverty Research Lab at the Kellogg School of Management, and founder of Innovations for Poverty Action — a non-profit dedicated to rigorously testing and scaling effective solutions to global poverty. His research focuses on the microeconomics of poverty alleviation in the developing world, and spans behavioural economics, access to financial services, and the design and evaluation of social protection programmes.

The TIME Annual Keynote Lecture is a flagship event for the School of Social Sciences and Philosophy, bringing leading international voices in development economics to Trinity each year to engage with researchers, students, and policymakers.
