HEC Paris Double Degree Programme

The HEC Paris Double Degree Programme offers eligible BESS students the opportunity to spend two years at one of Europe's leading business schools, graduating with both a Trinity degree and the MSc in Management (Diplôme de Grande École) from HEC Paris. This programme is open to current BESS students only. It is not available to students applying to Trinity and cannot be applied for before arrival.

Who can apply?

The programme is open to BESS students on the following pathways only:

  • Single Honours Business
  • Major Business with Minor Economics
  • Joint Honours Business and Economics

Students on other BESS pathways are not eligible. If you are unsure whether your pathway qualifies, contact the course office before making any plans.

How the programme works

At the end of their Junior Sophister year, successful applicants transfer to HEC Paris for a further two years of study. On completion, students are awarded both their Trinity degree, either a Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor in Business Studies, and the MSc in Management (Diplôme de Grande École) from HEC Paris.

The Trinity Moderatorship result is calculated as follows: 30% from the Junior Sophister year at Trinity, and 70% from the two years at HEC Paris (averaged across both years).

How to apply

Applications are made during Hilary term of the Junior Sophister year. Trinity applications normally take place in February and may involve an interview. Students who receive permission to apply from Trinity must then apply directly to HEC Paris.

Admission is conditional on acceptance from both Trinity and HEC Paris. Applicants are also required to obtain a second class (second division) result or better in their Junior Sophister examinations.

If you are accepted

During HEC Year 1, students must:

  • Continue to register as students of Trinity College.
  • Pay the appropriate Student Contribution to Trinity College and the relevant fee to HEC Paris.
  • Are free to apply to the Fees Office in the Academic Registry for a TCD tuition fee-equivalent reimbursement, which offsets part of the HEC fee.
  • Forward their HEC transcript to the HEC coordinator in the Department of Economics when available.

Students who choose to take a Placement Year between HEC Year 1 and HEC Year 2 do not pay a Student Contribution to Trinity that year, but must liaise with their tutor to seek off-books status for the year.

During HEC Year 2, students must:

  • Continue to register with Trinity College.
  • Pay full fees to HEC Paris. No Student Contribution is due to Trinity and no reimbursement is available.
  • Forward their final HEC transcript to the HEC coordinator in the Department of Economics on completion.
