Orrin Devinsky, MD, delivers 2018 John Kirker memorial lecture
The 2018 John Kirker Memorial Lecture, named in honour of the pioneering epileptologist and Trinity graduate Dr John Kirker, was recently delivered by Orrin Devinsky, Professor of Neurology, Neuroscience, Neurosurgery, and Psychiatry at the New York University School of Medicine. The lecture entitled ‘Medicinal Cannabis for Epilepsy’ was presented on as a keynote talk of the meeting of the Irish Chapter of the International League against Epilepsy.

Trinity student wins two significant Biomedical Engineering awards
A final year Trinity PhD student in Biomedical Engineering, Robert Gaul, has scooped two major engineering awards - first prize in the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) PhD competition for Cardiovascular Mechanics and Cell Biomechanics at the World Congress of Biomechanics, and the Engineers Ireland Biomedical Research Medal.

Trinity’s Financial Services Division (FSD) was awarded “Finance Team of the Year” at the annual British Accountancy Awards on Wednesday 26th September 2018 from a shortlist that included agricultural investor AgDevCo; bookmakers Paddy Power Betfair; data communication company Smart DCC Limited; agriculture and farming group Woldmarsh Producers Ltd; and the University of Edinburgh.

Trinity establishes The Andrew Lydon Scholarship in Motor Neurone Disease Research
On 18 September, the Academic Unit of Neurology held a ceremony to mark the establishment of a PhD scholarship in memory of Galway man Andrew Lydon. The four-year scholarship will support a PhD in Motor Neurone Disease research, and has been awarded to Trinity by the Andrew Lydon Trust.
