CLU22421 Latin in Progress

This module aims to consolidate your understanding of Latin grammar and pragmatics, further refine your translation, philological and critical skills, and broaden your familiarity with Latin idiom and style. Close analysis of texts from a range of periods and genres, including examples drawn from outside the traditional canon, will enable you by the end of the module to read Latin prose and verse with confidence and precision.

CLU22423 Latin in Progress with Project
This 10-ECTS version of the module includes a substantial element of independent research on a topic/text to be agreed with the module coordinator.

Learning Outcomes

Upon the successful completion of this module students should be able to:

  • Manage an extensive Latin vocabulary
  • Recognise and analyse complex grammatical and syntactical structures
  • Translate passages of unadapted Latin verse and prose texts from a range of genres and periods into idiomatic English, with attention to register and style
