Our alumni events provide an opportunity to hear from graduates who have built careers in a wide range of fields. Through panel discussions and networking opportunities, students can gain valuable advice and insights from experienced professionals, exploring the many paths a degree in social sciences and philosophy can offer.

Join us for an evening with Trinity philosophy graduates as they share their career journeys since graduation. The panel reflects a wide range of paths - from data and business consultancy to law, education, government, the arts and the non-profit sector - showing how a background in philosophy can lead to diverse and rewarding careers.

Michael Dooley

Press and Political Communications Advisor, Social Democrats

After graduating, Michael Dooley interned with news verification agency Storyful before becoming a journalist and producer on its news desk. He then joined Newstalk as a news reporter and anchor, alternating between on-the-ground political and crime reporting and reading news bulletins on air. In 2023, Michael joined Social Democrats` TD Gary Gannon`s parliamentary staff as an advisor, and now works as the party`s Press and Political Communications Advisor.


Claudia Friel

FSO Business Consultant, Ernst & Young

Claudia studied Single Honours Philosophy at Trinity and later completed both an MSc in Management and an MPhil in Philosophy at the University. She now works as a Business Consultant at EY, and has previously worked as a teaching assistant in philosophy. She also brings a unique background in competitive poker.

 


Michelle Garvey

Business Planning & Data Manager, Trinity Global

Michelle graduated from Trinity with Single Honours in Philosophy in 2003 and went on to complete an MPhil in Philosophy at the University of Sheffield, followed by an M.Ed. in Educational Guidance and Counselling at Trinity. Since joining Trinity`s administrative staff in 2006, she has worked across several areas including the Disability Service and the Equality Office. She is now Business Planning and Data Manager in Trinity Global, a role that reflects her interest in analytics, strategy and inclusion.


Ciar McCormack

Solicitor, Branigan Cosgrove Finnegan LLP

Ciar is a solicitor at Branigan Cosgrove Finnegan LLP, with experience in real estate, corporate and commercial law, and litigation.

He advises private clients and businesses on a broad range of legal matters and also volunteers with FLAC, the Free Legal Advice Centre.


Molly O`Leary

Poet, Writer and Singer

Molly studied Philosophy at Trinity before completing a Masters in Art Writing at the Glasgow School of Art.

She now works as a writer, poet and singer based in Dublin, and combines her creative practice with teaching.


Stephen Osal Kelly

Solicitor

Stephen graduated from Trinity with Single Honours in Philosophy in 2014 and went on to work as a clerical officer in the Civil Service. He decided to complete the professional Law exams, and was then offered a training contract with Matheson, one of the largest law firms in the State.

He qualified as a solicitor in 2025, and now works in criminal law, representing clients in Court on a daily basis.


Owen Vahey

Global Privacy & Data Trust Operations Director, Aon

Owen currently serves as Global Privacy & Data Trust Operations Director for Aon, leading and managing the privacy and data trust operations function globally across 120 jurisdictions. Prior to joining Aon, he held various roles in the financial services sector in Ireland, with a focus on regulatory compliance and data protection. Owen is a graduate of Trinity College (Single Honours Philosophy) and holds the Professional Certificate in Data Protection (CDPO) from the Institute of Banking and University College Dublin. He is also the Chair of the Data Protection & Information Security Working Group of the Compliance Institute.
