Reminiscences from the Front Line: An Evening with Dr. Marie de Montfort Supple in conversation with Dr. Salters Sterling, Former Academic Secretary, Trinity College Dublin
The Department of Clinical Speech and Language Studies hosted a very special evening of celebration to mark 50 years of the Education of Speech and Language Therapists (SLTs) in Ireland in April 2019. This evening involved conversation between Dr. Marie de Montfort Supple (founder of the first education programme for SLTs in the Dublin College of Speech and Language Therapy) and Dr. Salters Sterling (Former Academic Secretary, Trinity College Dublin).
Together, Dr. de Montfort Supple and Dr. Salters Sterling reminisced on the initial establishment of the Dublin College of Speech and Language Therapy, in addition to reflecting fondly on the clinical and academic developments within the field of SLT across the 50 years of education.
This evening saw staff and students (both present and past) re-connect and share memories of studying in TCD, and helped to emphasize the sense of community within the profession.
It was also a chance to celebrate Dr. Marie de Montfort Supple’s immense contribution to the development of SLT education and practice in Ireland and internationally over the course of her impressive career.
