Celebrating ISL Awareness Week, International Week of Deaf People and 25 Years of the Centre for Deaf Studies

To celebrate ISL Awareness Week, International Week of Deaf People and the 25th anniversary of the Centre for Deaf Studies, we are inviting Trinity students and staff, members of the Deaf community and anyone interested in ISL to a special open session of the TCD Signing Circle. The event will also mark the official launch of the weekly ISL Conversation Circle following its successful summer pilot.

Everyone is welcome at this special launch event, and no previous experience of ISL is needed. The session will include informal signing, basic introductions in ISL and a fingerspelling challenge in the Buttery. It will be followed by an invitation to visit the Centre for Deaf Studies from approximately 1pm and learn more about CDS as it celebrates its 25th anniversary.

The regular TCD Signing Circle will continue every Thursday from 12.00–1.00pm in the Buttery. It provides an informal opportunity to meet others, use Irish Sign Language and celebrate ISL as one of the working languages of Trinity College Dublin. All levels of ISL experience are welcome, with conversation at the regular weekly circle taking place in ISL.

This year also marks the 75th anniversary of the World Federation of the Deaf.
