STEPS Engineering Your Future at Trinity College Dublin with Engineers Ireland
Overview of Transition Year Programme STEPS Engineering Your Future at Trinity College Dublin with Engineers Ireland
The School of Engineering is pleased to invite Transition Year students to take part in STEPS Engineering Your Future (STEPS EYF) in partnership with Engineers Ireland.
What is it?
STEPS EYF is a three-day programme designed to give Transition Year students a clear picture of what studying engineering is like at university and how engineering shapes the world around us.
Participants spend time in Trinity’s School of Engineering, hear from researchers and lecturers, take part in practical sessions and meet engineers working in a range of areas. The aim is to give students a grounded sense of what engineering involves and how their interests might fit within the field.
Across the three days, students will take part in workshops, tours, demonstrations and group activities, all supported by Trinity staff and current undergraduates.
When is it on?
The STEPS EYF programme will run across three in-person days, Tuesday 3rd March - Thursday 5th March 2026 (3 Days).

How will it be delivered?
The programme takes place in person across campus locations used by the School of Engineering. Sessions include hands-on workshops, group problem-solving, lab-based activities and short talks.
Students will also visit a local partner organisation to see how engineering and sustainability come together in real-world practice.
What if I am not sure which area of engineering I want to study?
You do not need to have a firm plan. STEPS EYF is a chance to sample different branches of engineering and see what you enjoy most. Many students take part because they are curious and want a clearer sense of the possibilities open to them.
Is there an application process?
Applications are managed by Engineers Ireland STEPS.
To apply, students are asked to:
- Complete the online application form, including a short statement of interest.
- Provide a Parental Consent Form.
- Submit a letter from their school (Principal or TY Coordinator) confirming permission to attend if offered a place.
- Provide proof of the school’s insurance indemnity.
Full details and forms are available through Engineers Ireland.
Is there a fee?
Fees for this 3-day experience will be €25. Students attending a DEIS school will not be charged a fee.
When will I hear if I have a place?
Engineers Ireland will contact all applicants once the selection process is complete. If places are full, students may be placed on a waiting list.
If I am offered a place, what happens next?
Students will receive further details about where to go, what to bring and how each day will run.
