Trinity’s School of Engineering is highlighting the success of Dr John Kennedy, Associate Professor in Vibrations, Acoustics and Dynamics, who co‑leads the award‑winning Sea‑Scan project with Professor Marco Ruffini from the School of Computer Science and Statistics.
Working with colleagues in ADAPT and the Defence Forces, the team has created a new system for detecting vessel activity and supporting protection of subsea infrastructure. Sea‑Scan has been named the winner of the Maritime Situational Awareness Challenge under the Research Ireland‑Defence Innovation Challenge.
The project now progresses to further development with clear value in both security and environmental monitoring.
