Trinity College Dublin Irish Language Awards 2019 announced

Posted on: 26 March 2019

The Irish Language Office of Trinity College Dublin is delighted to announce the Irish Language Awards 2019. The awards will recognise the exemplary work being carried out for the Irish language in Trinity and beyond.

The award categories are:

  • Individual student
  • Individual staff member
  • Student society
  • College service
  • Graduate

We welcome nominations from all Trinity graduates, students and staff. You do not need to be a student/staff member of the university to nominate a graduate. Self-nomination is also welcome.

The short nomination form is available in both Irish and English; therefore, any person can put forward a nomination for a Trinity College Dublin Irish Language Award.

A nomination can be made for an achievement of any kind that promotes the Irish language. The effect of any action(s) on the College community as well as on the general public will be taken into account in the selection process.

Trinity College Dublin is committed to the development and promotion of the Irish language in the university. The Irish Language Office and the Irish Language Committee work continuously to add to the services and events taking place on campus. Trinity has a strong Irish language student society, An Cumann Gaelach, which has been named first place in the Glór na nGael awards for best Society at Third Level for seven of the last eight years.

These Awards are intended to show appreciation and recognition to those in Trinity’s community who work diligently to further the Irish language. It is hoped that the Irish Language Awards programme will encourage other members of the university community to take part or become even more active in the promotion of the language, and that the general public will be made aware of the opportunities available in Irish language life at Trinity College Dublin.

The winners will be honoured at an awards ceremony at the end of term and their names will be displayed in Seomra na Gaeilge.

Further information and the nomination form, in Irish and English, are available at http://www.tcd.ie/gaeloifig/en/gradaim.php

The Irish Language Officer, Áine Ní Shúilleabháin, can also be contacted at gaeloifig@tcd.ie or 01 896 3652.
