Trinity College Awards Two Scholarships to Antrim Students

Posted on: 21 May 2009

The Ekenhead Scholarship, founded in 1879, has been awarded for the first time in almost 30 years to two County Antrim students studying the Two Subject Moderatorship (TSM) in Trinity College Dublin.  Jason Donnelly from Ballymena, studying Economics and German, and Ruth Donaldson from Newtownabbey, studying Greek and Near Eastern & Jewish Studies, were awarded the scholarship in 2009.

The award, founded with the assistance of a bequest to Trinity College by Mrs Mary Dummett in memory of her brother, Thomas Ekenhead, is open to students who are natives of County Antrim and enrolled on the TSM course.  The Scholarship is granted based on academic merit in the Junior Freshman annual examination and is tenable for up to three years subject to adequate academic performance.  The scholarship is worth up to €5000 annually and may be awarded in more than one part.

TSM is a four year joint Honors Bachelor in Arts Degree and is one of the most popular degree choices in TCD, allowing students to combine and specialise in two arts subjects up to degree level.  Courses in 25 diverse subjects are available in College offering students a choice of over 170 possible course combinations.  The two chosen subjects are taught separately, providing students with the opportunity to develop an extensive knowledge in their preferred areas.

The closing date for receipt of applications is September 30th, 2009.  Applicants should contact the Senior Tutor’s Office, House 27, College, or email Ms Gaye Conroy (conroyg@tcd.ie) for further information.
