TCD Academic Receives National Academy Award for Excellence in Teaching

Professor Sylvia Draper of Trinity College’s School of Chemistry was presented with an Award for Excellence in Teaching in Higher Education by the National Academy for the Integration of Research & Teaching & Learning (NAIRTL) at a ceremony opened by Minister of State at the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment, Billy Kelleher on December 15 last.

Following extensive research on national awards programmes in the US , UK , Canada , Australia and New Zealand, the NAIRTL introduced the awards programme to honour exemplary teachers who are also innovative researchers in higher education in Ireland .

The NAIRTL Excellence in Teaching Awards aim to raise the profile of teaching and learning through recognition and are a celebration of teachers who make an outstanding impact on the student learning experience. The awards comprise a crystal vase, a certificate endorsed by the Chairman of the Higher Education Authority, Mr Michael Kelly and €5,000.

NAIRTL is a Strategic Innovation Fund (SIF) funded collaborative project between Trinity College Dublin, University College Cork, Cork Institute of Technology, National University of Ireland Galway, and Waterford Institute of Technology.
