Irish Rugby Player Jamie Heaslip Presents TCD Sports ‘Hall of Fame’ Awards

This year’s Sports Alumni ‘Hall of Fame’ awards were presented to Trinity rugby alumni who played in the Lions Rugby tours throughout the years, Des Fitzgerald, Philip Orr, John Robbie, Hugo McNeill, Brendan Mullin, Mike Roberts, and Robin Roe.

The awards were presented by former Trinity rugby player and Irish Grand Slam No. 8, Jamie Heaslip, at a reunion lunch held in April. This was followed by the last All Ireland League (AIL) game of the season between TCD and Lansdowne rugby club played in  College Park .  The Trinity 1st XV team, led by Captain Shane Young put in their best performance of the season with a stunning win against league table leaders Lansdowne, with a final score of Trinity 13pointts, Lansdowne 12points.

Trinity College ‘s Department of Sport and the Trinity Foundation established the annual Sports Alumni ‘Hall of Fame’ awards in 2006 to honour the College’s outstanding sports alumni. The DU Football Club, honoured by this year’s Hall of Fame awards, was founded in 1854 and is the oldest continuous Rugby Club in these world.

The College also extends its congratulations to alumnus Jamie Heaslip who was recently selected as one of the 14 Irishmen who will travel with the Lions rugby touring squad in South Africa this summer.
