In 2009 over 54,000 students sat the Leaving Certificate in Ireland and of these only 1,015 achieved 560 points or higher.  Over 40% of these high achieving students chose Trinity College to continue their education.

A ceremony to mark the students’ achievements was held in the Dining Hall in TCD attended by the Provost, Dr John Hegarty and the Senior Lecturer, Dr Aileen Douglas.  Congratulating the students, the Provost said: “The high points achieved by these students in their Leaving Certificate, or equivalent second level examination, reflects both their remarkable ability and their commitment to hard work.  We at Trinity are very proud that these talented students have decided to join us for the next exciting stage of their personal and educational development. We wish them continued success in the years to come.”
