Funded Education at TCD for Job Seeking Graduates – Deadline Extended to September 21st

Posted on: 10 September 2009

The closing date for applications for the two new and innovative programmes introduced this autumn under the Higher Education Authority’s (HEA) Labour Market Activation Programmes initiative has been extended until Monday, September 21st.  Established by TCD’s School of Computer Science and Statistics, in partnership with the School of Linguistic, Speech and Communication Sciences, the two new postgraduate diplomas in computing with an interdisciplinary outlook will run on a part-time basis over two years.

Twenty-five job-seeking graduates will have the opportunity to study on the postgraduate courses which are specifically aimed at up-skilling and re-skilling workers for jobs in the sectors of the economy considered key to tackling the recession and driving economic growth.  These courses are designed to provide an ideal opportunity for students to build a flexible programme of learning and will enable participants to improve their computer science skills while also broadening and developing career options in partner disciplines.  Graduates with an interest in computing are encouraged to pursue further education in a field which is essential in underpinning the ICT sector and the broader knowledge economy.

Established by the Department of Enterprise Trade & Employment, the Department of Education & Science and the Higher Education Authority, the initiative aims to help improve the skills of the unemployed, whilst assisting them with returning to the work-place.   Further information on these programmes is available on the Graduate Studies website.  Applications from suitably qualified applicants may be made via the Postgraduate Applications Centre.
