French Military History Expert Delivers Lecture at TCD

The Department of Modern History hosted a lecture by the 18th century historian, Dr Bernard Gainot, from the University Paris-Sorbonne on March 27th last.  

Dr Gainot’s lecture focused on the thematic aspect of military history as an academic discipline in itself rather than a specific period. Dr Gainot also spoke about the multidisciplinary and inter-institutional research programme, La Construction du Militaire (‘becoming a professional soldier’) 1450-1850, which his team at the Institut d’Histoire de la Révolution Française (IHRF) are involved in.  

Among the guests at the lecture were, Curator of Military History at the National Museum Collins Barracks, Lar Joye, Science and Technology Attaché at the French Embassy in Dublin , Christophe Lerouge and author and member of the Military History Society of Ireland, Kenneth Ferguson.
