Trinity College Dublin is host to several events during Culture Night on Friday 18th September. Join in the fun during this annual public event that celebrates culture, creativity and the arts, all over Ireland.

Here are the range of activities taking place across Trinity. Click on the links to find out more detail on each event.

Trinity Orchestra on Culture Night (booking required)

Trinity Orchestra welcomes visitors of Culture Night for an evening of classical music hosted in the Graduates Memorial Building Debating Chamber.

The Trinity Orchestra is an entirely student run orchestra based in Trinity College Dublin. After a summer of playing festivals across the country, they are back home, opening our academic year with an evening of classical tunes.

Lir Life at The Lir Academy

Step inside The Lir – National Academy of Dramatic Art at Trinity College Dublin – Ireland’s premier centre for training the next generation of theatre-makers, actors, and designers.

Throughout the evening, visitors can drop in for workshops, demonstrations, and guided tours that pull back the curtain on the vibrant world of stagecraft. From acting and directing to the often-unseen magic of set, costume, and lighting design, tutors and students from The Lir will be on hand to share their expertise and offer a rare, behind-the-scenes glimpse into the craft of theatre-making.

Lava Land: Exploring Volcanic Ireland

This Culture Night, join the Dublin Magmatism Group at Trinity College Dublin for a dive into the fiery forces that have shaped Ireland over millions of years.

Discover how ancient volcanic activity helped form the landscapes we see today, and delve into the depths with cooled chunks of plutonic magma chambers. Visitors will have the opportunity to get hands-on with volcanic rocks from around the world, and explore the science behind volcanoes, magma, and the Earth’s interior.

Let your curiosity erupt this Culture Night, and help unearth the primordial forces of magma lying beneath our feet.

Turas treoraithe ar champas Choláiste na Tríonóide / Guided Irish language tour of Trinity College Dublin campus

Tar ar thuras treoraithe trí Ghaeilge ar champas stairiúil Choláiste na Tríonóide. Faigh léargas ar an ollscoil is sine in Éirinn, ar a hoidhreacht agus ar shaol an mhic léinn sa lá atá inniu ann. Reáchtálfar trí thuras a mhairfidh thart ar 30-40 nóiméad an ceann. Tosóidh siad ón Campanile atá sa Chearnóg Thosaigh. Ní gá áit a chur in áirithe ach a bheith ag an Campanile (pointe tosaithe) ag do rogha ama. Bí linn!

Enjoy guided tours in Irish of Trinity College’s historic campus this Culture Night. Get an insight into Ireland’s oldest university, its heritage and the life of today’s students! Three tours will take place and each will last approximately 30-40 minutes. They will begin at 5:45pm, 6:30pm and 7:15pm from the Campanile in Trinity’s Front Square. Reservation is not required, but please be at the Campanile (starting point) at your chosen time. Please note that the tour will be in Irish only.

Miss Powder Vacuum at The Douglas Hyde Gallery (booking required)

Miss Powder Vacuum returns this Culture Night and she’s summoning the most gifted and challenged to guide us through another year of the end of this world! The time has come once again to gather and groan over the absolute best and the absolute worst in search of our most powdered prima donna.

Visit The Douglas Hyde for a very special pageant, curated by artist Bill Harris. Contestants of all shapes, sizes and species, handpicked through our annual casting call, will do their best to seduce our judges and audience. Expect live performance, music, catfights and the crowning of true glory.
