The School of Social Sciences and Philosophy is delighted to congratulate Professor Kenneth Pearce and Dr Alison Fernandes of the Department of Philosophy, who were both honoured at the 2022 Irish Research Council Researcher of the Year Awards in the Supervisors and Mentors category of the Research Ally Awards. The Research Ally Awards were established to recognise the vital but often unseen contribution made by those who support and sustain researchers at all stages of their careers, with nominations coming from postgraduate students, postdoctoral fellows, and research-active staff.

Professor Pearce, a Fellow of Trinity College Dublin and Ussher Assistant Professor in Berkeley Studies, is known for his research in early modern philosophy, metaphysics, and philosophy of language, and has played a central role in supporting postgraduate research in the Department. Dr Alison Fernandes, whose research focuses on the philosophy of time, causation, and the foundations of physics, was similarly recognised for the quality and care she brings to the supervision and mentoring of researchers.

In total, nine Trinity researchers and staff members were honoured across the three Research Ally categories — Research Officer, Supervisors and Mentors, and Support/Technical. The School extends its warmest congratulations to both Professor Pearce and Dr Fernandes on this richly deserved recognition.
