The School of Social Sciences and Philosophy is delighted to congratulate the winners of the 2021/22 Dermot McAleese Teaching Assistant Awards: Anu Jose (Economics), Sadbh Dowling (Sociology), Victoria Iugai (Philosophy), and Audrey Plan (Political Science). The awards, established in 2012 through the generosity of School graduates and with the ongoing support of former Whately Professor of Political Economy Dermot McAleese, are presented annually to recognise the vital role that teaching assistants play in enriching the undergraduate learning experience across the School's four disciplines.
Recipients are selected through a nomination process that evaluates a range of qualities, including creativity in tutorials, the ability to provoke critical thinking, responsiveness to students, and the overall impact of their teaching on the course. Each of this year's four winners stood out among their peers for the dedication, energy, and intellectual rigour they brought to their roles. The Dermot McAleese TA Awards have become one of the most valued traditions within the School, shining a light on the postgraduate students who give so generously of their time and expertise in support of their fellow students. The School extends its warmest congratulations to all four winners on this well-deserved recognition.
