Walk-in vaccination centre to open this week

Posted on: 07 February 2022

The College Health Service is operating another walk-in COVID-19 vaccination centre in the Public Theatre (Exam Hall), Front Square from Tuesday 08 February until Friday 11 February 2022. Vaccination will be available to all Trinity students and staff from 10am until 4pm each day.

The College community can attend for booster doses, or first or second doses for those who have not yet commenced or completed an initial vaccination course.

If you have contracted COVID-19 after being fully vaccinated, you must wait for three months after the diagnosis before attending for a Booster vaccine.

“Just over 50% of fully vaccinated people aged 17 to 34 have already received their booster dose. Omicron remains a concern for people who have not been fully vaccinated and received their booster. I strongly encourage members of the College community to take up the vaccine,” said Dr David McGrath, medical director of the College Health Service.

Current research shows that two weeks after your booster, your protection against severe illness should go back up to 90%.

Don’t forget to bring your Digital Covid Certificate or proof of previous vaccination, in addition to your PPS number. You will also need to provide the College Health Service team with a mobile number and email address to facilitate the updating of your Digital Covid Certificate

Although Ireland no longer requires proof of vaccination to enter indoor public spaces such as bars, restaurants, museums, or large indoor events, this is not the case across most of the EU at present. Students should be mindful that, should they wish to travel to these areas, proof of booster vaccination may be required.

Currently the following countries in the EU require an up-to-date EU Digital Covid Cert for some, or all of these activities, accessing public spaces such as bars, restaurants, nightclubs, museums, swimming pools, public transport, cultural events, etc – Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain Sweden and Switzerland. This list is not exhaustive and is constantly evolving.

“Obviously, other countries around the world also have specific requirements, so I would suggest to students that in addition to the personal health benefits to themselves and health benefits to the wider community with vaccination, there are also important logistical considerations to take into account, particularly for those who wish to partake in Erasmus programmes or travel for other reasons,” Dr McGrath added.

Since 01 February 2022, vaccine certificates for primary vaccination series will not be accepted for travel if more than 270 days (9 months) have passed since the final dose in the primary vaccine series. Vaccine certificates based on booster and additional doses are not time limited.
