Trinity’s Student Publications Win at National Student Media Awards

Trinity’s student publications, The University Times and Trinity News, were recognised in eight categories at this year’s National Student Media Awards with students taking home a quarter of all awards on the night.

For the second year in a row The University Times picked up the prestigious ‘Newspaper of the Year’ award while Trinity News editor Aoife Crowley was named ‘Editor of the Year’.

Trinity News’s Aoife Crowley also scooped the title of ‘Editor of the Year’.  The publication won more awards than any other publication after scooping the top prize in five categories which also included ‘Magazine of the Year’ for The Trinity News Ball Guide which went to Aoife Crowley and Karl McDonald, and a ‘Layout and Design’ award for Martin McKenna and Aoife Crowley.  Karl McDonald, editor of the culture supplement, was awarded ‘Features Writer of the Year’, while ‘Sports Writer of the Year’ went to staff writer Killian McCarthy.

University Times editor Tom Lowe, who was nominated in six categories overall, was awarded ‘Journalist of the Year’.

Short story of the year went to David Lynch, for his piece “The Long Finger”, which had been published in Trinity’s literary review magazine, Icarus.

The staff of The University Times with Eoin McVey, Managing Editor of The Irish Times, who presented the award for ‘Newspaper of the Year’.
