Trinity College Dublin’s Science Gallery has been announced as the winner of the 2011 Realex Irish Web Award for Best Education and Third Level Website.  The annual awards, which recognise the best of the Irish web, are open to anyone in Ireland.

The award was presented to Trinity Science Gallery’s Events and Community Manager, Ian Brunswick, and web developer, Danny Browne, at a ceremony at the Mansion House in Dublin.  Accepting the award Ian Brunswick said: “Thank you so much for this award.  It is especially gratifying given the other excellent finalists we were up against in this category and comes at a great time as we’ve just launched our new exhibition SURFACE TENSION: The Future of Water.”

Accepting the award on behalf of Trinity’s Science Gallery were Danny Browne, Web Developer, and Ian Brunswick, Events and Community Manager.

Commenting on the award Director of the Science Gallery Michael John Gorman said: “We’re really delighted with this award, particularly as we move towards Dublin City of Science 2012.  Trinity’s Science Gallery is all about connecting with people, especially students and young adults, who are curious about science. Our website helps us connect to that community, so this is a win for Science Gallery and a win for Trinity College Dublin.”

The other finalists in the Best Education and Third Level Website category included the National College of Art & Design, UCD Library, Wandesforde National School in Kilkenny, and the Institute of Technology, Carlow.

Trinity’s Science Gallery has also been shortlisted for the Dublin Living Awards in both the Dublin Gallery of the Year and the Dublin Cultural Attraction of the Year categories, and the IDI Design Awards 2011.
