The Irish University Championships saw Dublin University Boat Club (DUBC) and Dublin University Ladies Boat Club (DULBC) win the ‘Best University’ title following a record total of 11 wins, eight second places and three third place finishes.  Represented by over 80 students, Trinity’s rowing prowess on the day resulted in a total of 66 points towards the Lady Victoria Cup for best overall University, placing Trinity’s rowing club well ahead of their closest competitor, Queen’s University Belfast.

Teams representing universities from across Ireland competed at the event in numerous boat classes and status divisions, from first year novices to Irish Internationals.  Following their success at the 2011 University Championships, Trinity rowers continued their winning streak when they competed at the first Grand League Regatta of the season at Skibbereen where the DUBC claimed four victories and the DULBC claimed six victories.

The recent successes of the boat club bode well for the upcoming Trinity Regatta which will take place on Saturday April 16th in the War Memorial Gardens, Islandbridge.  The Regatta, which has been held annually since 1898, features competing clubs and universities from all over Ireland and promises to be a day of exciting entertainment for all those in attendance.  With crews entered at novice, intermediate and senior level, the Trinity crews will hope to continue their recent success by securing the prestigious trophies on offer.  Races start from 9.30am, with main events and finals scheduled from 3pm- 6pm and the presentation of prizes scheduled for 5.30pm-6pm.
