Trinity remains Ireland’s leading university in QS World University Rankings

Trinity remains Ireland’s leading university in the latest QS World University Rankings, which are released today. Trinity is positioned 108th globally, and 37th in Europe.

Trinity’s overall position of 108th is a slight fall compared to last year’s QS rankings (104th), and comes as governments elsewhere invest in higher education to ensure that universities in their countries are among the best in the world.

The QS World University Rankings consider six factors in determining the world’s leading 1,000 institutions. These factors are: international faculty; international students; academic reputation; citations per faculty; employer reputation; and faculty:student ratio.

Trinity was the top-performing Irish institution in five out of the six categories, and continues to perform consistently across all factors in spite of the serious ongoing challenges faced by the third-level sector in Ireland.

Trinity’s Dean of Research, Professor Linda Doyle, said:

We are particularly pleased with our performance in academic reputation and citations per faculty as these factors underpin our position as one of the world’s leading research universities.

All Irish universities perform well, especially when the continued under-investment in the sector is taken into account and Trinity does particularly well in this regard. There will always be fluctuation in international university rankings but significant improvements will only be achieved with a sustained increase in investment.
