Posted on: 19 February 2021

Trinity College Dublin is today celebrating its new membership of the University of Sanctuary network.
This means that College will practice, and work to sustain into the future, three key principles:
  • a commitment to learning – especially about migration, refuge and asylum;
  • ensuring a culture of welcome, especially for refugees and asylum seekers and
  • sharing our ideas and practices with others.

The news was celebrated at an online event today [Friday 19 February 2021].

Professor Catherine McCabe explained what it means to be a University of Sanctuary.

Provost Patrick  Prendergast discussed Trinity’s work in supporting education, including the Asylum Seeker Scholarship.
Andy Pollack, Acting Chair, Places of Sanctuary Ireland , discussed the Sanctuary Movement and how it is leading to real change in Irish and international education.
Dr Michelle Darcy (School of Political Science) launched a short film, Flight,  funded by a Trinity College Dublin Visual and Performing Arts Fund. Flight can be seen here.
