Trinity College Dublin is Ranked 110th in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2012

Trinity College Dublin has risen to 110th place in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2012 announced today, up seven places on last year. These are the second set of prestigious rankings in which Trinity College has scored highly. Last month the College ranked in 67th place in the QS World University Rankings 2012.
The editor of Times Higher Education rankings, Phil Baty commended Trinity’s achievement noting that this comes “against a backdrop of significant rises for the East”. Overall there were major gains in the rankings across Asia-Pacific countries with falls for leading institutions in the West.
Commenting on the significance of these rankings, Trinity Provost, Dr Patrick Prendergast said:
“Today’s ranking confirms Trinity’s position as a university delivering for Ireland at the highest international levels. It is a testament to the continued excellent work and dedication of all staff. The College rose significantly in its score for teaching which underlines the quality of a Trinity education.”
“The university’s scores for research and innovation also rose significantly contributing to the College’s world class reputation. Trinity is building on its strengths with its new research strategy, concentrating on key strategic areas such as cancer, nanoscience, ageing, cultural heritage and the arts among others that will benefit Ireland and society as a whole.”
“The university has also achieved high scores in areas including impact of research and international outlook.”
“Notwithstanding these combined achievements, the cuts in funding and global competition are having a direct impact on the rankings. The spend on a student in an Irish university is currently and has been historically well below its international counterparts.”
“Ireland deserves universities in the top 100 worldwide. We owe it to our country’s future students that they will have access to high calibre education provided by a leading international university.”
“A world class university, however, requires resourcing at internationally competitive levels and for Trinity to sustain its position and increase further worldwide requires adequate investment in the university sector.”
