Transparency International elects TCD Research Associate to Board of Directors

Transparency International’s membership has elected John Devitt to its international Board of Directors at its Annual Membership Meeting in Indonesia. A research associate at the Trinity College School of Business, John is the first Irish person to have been elected to the governing body of the Berlin-based anti-corruption organisation.

John Devitt founded the Irish chapter of Transparency International (TI) in 2004 and is currently its Chief Executive. He is a communications specialist by training. A former press officer at the British Embassy in Dublin, he was also the first Irish member of its Public Diplomacy Committee. Before joining the TI movement he served as trade representative at the Irish Consulate in New Zealand.

A graduate of European studies at the University of Limerick and of public relations at the Public Relations Institute of Ireland, John is and a member of the National Union of Journalists and Institute of European Affairs.

Since its founding in 1993, Transparency International has played a lead role in improving the lives of millions around the world by building momentum for the anti-corruption movement. The organisation raises awareness and diminishes apathy and tolerance of corruption, and devises and implements practical actions to address it
