TCIN awarded Platinum Green Lab certifcation

Posted on: 04 June 2021

We are excited to announce that Trinity College Institute of Neuroscience (TCIN) has been awarded Platinum Level Green Lab certification from My Green Lab, the first in Trinity and second in Ireland to achieve this status. Green Lab certification is a program run by My Green Lab designed to give laboratories actionable ways they can improve their environmental performance.

The efforts of TCIN to establish more sustainable practises began in February 2020, when they applied for and were awarded the Provost’s Sustainability Fund to register with My Green Lab. Representatives from wet labs in TCIN along with the Director, Deputy-Director, and Operations Manager designed a number of initiatives to improve sustainable practices which included better resource and waste management, decreasing water usage, and reducing energy consumption.

Their initiatives were successfully applied by staff and students in TCIN which has resulted in them becoming the first lab and Institute to be awarded Green Lab certification in Trinity College Dublin.  They are commendably the second Institute to achieve this certification in Ireland.
