TCD Professor Awarded Engineering Lectureship from Science Foundation Ireland

Professor John Fitzpatrick, Head of the School of Engineering at Trinity College Dublin, has been awarded an Engineering Lectureship from Science Foundation Ireland (SFI) Engineering Professorship and Lectureship Programme.  Professor Fitzpatrick was one of six recipients of the new SFI Engineering Lectureship posts and his research will focus onHigh Level Design for Media Systems.

Funding of €5.5 million for the new engineering posts across Higher Education Institutes in Ireland was announced on the February 11 last by, Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment , Micheál Martin announced investment.

The SFI Engineering Professorship and Lectureship Programme aims to increase the number of world-class, research active professors and lecturers in engineering disciplines in Irish Higher Education Institutes (HEIs), to allow more flexible recruiting by HEIs of key research personnel at junior and senior levels. A total of 24 Lectureship and 11 Professorship posts will be funded through the programme over the next three years which may be held for up to five years.
