A new ranking of international business schools has rated Trinity College Dublin as the clear leader in Ireland for business and management research and as among the best in the world.

Statistics released from the Social Science Research Network (www.ssrn.com), the leading repository of business and management research papers, indicates that based on downloads over the last year TCD ranks 53rd out of more than 800 international business schools. Based on papers submitted in the last year, a measure of research activity, TCD ranks even higher at 7th in the world.  The great majority of the papers submitted by TCD researchers are from the Business School, with papers also from the fields of economics and computer science. The bulk of the research papers from TCD are in the area of international financial integration, which is a particular strength at the college.

The top three international business schools based on downloads over the last year are London Business School, the Rotterdam School of Management and Tilburg University. Based on new papers submitted the top three are Tilburg, Rotterdam and Pompeu Fabra (Barcelona).

Other Irish business schools in the rankings include UCD Smurfit School which ranks 200 for downloads and 207 for new papers, and DCU School of Business at 341 and 307 respectively.

The Provost of Trinity College Dublin, Dr John Hegarty, said “this excellent ranking is a credit to all those involved. As a university we are committed to achieving excellence in both research and its dissemination, through teaching and publication. This performance shows that this is achievable with a focused approach to quality”.

The Senior Lecturer of TCD, Professor Colm Kearney commented “This excellent result proves that Irish management and business researchers can be and are globally competitive. It is all the more impressive when one considers that it has been achieved against competition that is generally much better resourced.”

The Head of the Business School Dr Gerard McHugh said “Set alongside the consistent success of the school in achieving a high ranking for its MBA programme in the FT Rankings, this again confirms TCD School of Business as Ireland’s leading business school”.
