Talking History Wins National Radio Award

Talking History, the Newstalk radio show presented by TCD historian Dr Patrick Geoghegan, won a prestigious PPI award at the national radio awards on Friday, October 2nd last. The PPI (Phonographic Performance Ireland) Radio Awards recognise the contribution of writers, broadcasters, producers, reporters, presenters and technicians alike, in informing, educating and entertaining listeners throughout Ireland, and are the highest national radio award.  Talking History was named ‘Best Specialist Speech’ programme.

Talking History is a weekly two-hour history programme, which has been running on Sunday nights from 7-9 p.m. since October 2006.  The live radio show debates a range of issues every week  – Irish and non-Irish, ancient, medieval and modern – in an engaging and challenging manner with contributions from leading academics all across the world.  Talking History has helped to bring the subject to a large audience and is popular with school-goers, academics and the general public. 

The presenter, Dr Patrick Geoghegan, is a lecturer in the School of Histories and Humanities at Trinity College Dublin and recently won a Provost’s Teaching Award for teaching excellence.  His latest book, King Dan: the Rise of Daniel O’Connell, was launched in College last year.
