The unique dining venue captures the magic and history of Ireland’s oldest university

The relaunch of ‘The 1592’ this week commemorated the 20th anniversary of ‘The 1592’ restaurant, which opened its doors for the first time on 14 February 2000 and marks the completion of a renovation project which saw a significant investment in the conservation of restaurant’s unique dining space, including a range of original historical features.

Commenting on the re-opening, Head of Trinity Catering, Moira O’Brien, said: “This refurbishment has created an enhanced space for the Trinity community and diners from further afield to enjoy by restoring ‘The 1592’ to its former glory and allowing the university to make the most of its assets and reach new dining audiences”.

Gertrude Petersen, who has been maître d’ at ‘The 1592’ for almost 10 years, added: “Myself and the team here are really looking forward to delivering exceptional food and wine in our new and improved restaurant, which strikes the right balance between style and comfort”.

‘The 1592’s’ dining options focus on showcasing Irish food with a contemporary twist, while placing emphasis on an affordable fine dining experience. The new and improved eatery, which traditionally served Trinity’s academic community, now looks set to offer private dining options for the corporate market for the first time in its 20-year history, with corporate bookings accepted for breakfast and dinner sittings.
