Raise & Give (RAG) Week Supports Trinity Charities

Posted on: 19 January 2015

Trinity’s Raise and Give (RAG) Week 2015, running from Monday 19 to Friday 23 January, has a great line-up of events for everyone across the College.  RAG Week raises awareness and donations for a number of College charities, in support of student education and engagement with society.

Organised and run by the Students’ Union and Trinity Volunteering, RAG Week is also being supported by Trinity alumni through a grant of €10,000 matched funding – for every euro raised alumni will match it to double the donation.

Highlights of this year’s RAG Week include a Trinitones concert in the Chapel,  a staff-student table quiz, a Quidditch Tournament on College Park, the RAG ball, 5-a-side & dodgeball competitions, 10k Gym Triathlon, 3k Campus Run and Trinity Come Dancing.

At the launch were Students Union Ents Officer, Finn Murphy; Trinity Foundation Board member, Fergal Naughton; Provost, Dr Patrick Prendergast; and Co-chairs of Trinity Voluntering, Sarah McAvinchey and Tara O'Broin

Speaking at the well-attended launch of RAG Week 2015, the Provost, Dr Patrick Prendergast, President of the Students’ Union, Domhnall McGlacken-Byrne, an alumnus and Trinity Foundation Board member, Fergal Naughton all highlighted the sense of community and civic engagement that this year’s RAG Week is bringing to the College with such a wide range of activities and input from staff, students and alumni.

After the launch speeches, there was an opportunity for the many guests to mingle informally with some of the student leaders and charity members who are organising the week’s fundraising endeavours.

There are 11 partner charities based in Trinity which will benefit from RAG Week fundraising: VTP, VDP, TAP, S2S, Student Hardship Fund, Suas, MOVE, FLAC, Enactus, Cancer Soc and Amnesty. Combined they have hundreds of weekly volunteers helping Trinity students, children and families from disadvantaged communities, as well as special projects abroad.
