Provost Welcomes PRTLI Funding

Trinity College’s Provost, Dr John Hegarty, welcomed today’s announcement of the  allocation of  €22.7 million in funding for TCD research programmes under the  Government’s  Programme for Third Level Research in Third Level Institutions – PRTLI Cycle 4.  Details of the funding were announced by the Minister for Education and Science, Mary Hanafin.

Particular highlights include funding for the humanities to deliver the Trinity Long Room Hub initiative, funded under the collaborative programme ‘Humanities Serving Irish Society’ which was awarded €10.7 million. Another principal beneficiary was  the Centre for Research on Adaptive Nanostructures and Nanodevices (CRANN) and nanoscience research at TCD  which was awarded €6.2 million as part of the ‘Nanoscience and Nano scale technologies for Ireland programme’.

Commenting on the funding allocation, the Provost, Dr Hegarty said: “I welcome this funding  for TCD research programmes which will support infrastructure development and graduate education programmes for the College and facilitate inter-institutional collaboration across the island of Ireland.”
