New Interactive Energy Saving Website is Launched

Posted on: 10 March 2009

Trinity College Dublin, and other members of the energy programme e3 DIT, DCU and UCD, launched a new interactive energy saving website this week. The site www.e3.ie aims to secure the cooperation of building users in reducing energy use in 66 buildings across the four campuses, with the target of achieving 10% saving in energy by 2010.

The programme, e3representing ‘Energy, Environment and Economy’, is part funded by Sustainable Energy Ireland (SEI) and is run by the buildings offices in the four higher education institutions. The programme involves analysing energy consumption, and identifying opportunities for savings and implementing change.  Energy savings for Phase 1 of the programme, which covered 30 buildings over the period 2004-2007, were valued at over €1million and greenhouse gas emissions were reduced by 6,200 tonnes.

The centrepiece of the website is the interactive building map, which allows occupants to explore different types of rooms to find areas for potential savings.  Other features of the site include a comprehensive list of energy saving tips and access to real-time energy performance details of the participating buildings.
